Scones are the English muffins. They are baked to an English afternoon tea (or for breakfast). Apple Scones are not too sweet. You can be served with jam or butter.
Preparation time: 45 minutes.
The recipe is well suited for: dessert and breakfast.
3 1/2 cups of flour,
3 tsp. baking powder
1.5 tsp. salt
1/4 cup butter, chilled,
1/4 cup caster sugar,
Milk – as needed to knead the dough.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and grease a baking sheet with oil and sprinkle lightly with flour.
In a large bowl sift the flour, baking powder and salt.
Cut in butter until crumbly, add to the flour.
Add the sugar and mix well.
Peel the apples. Rub apple rub on a coarse grater or finely chop.
Add apples in flour. Mix well.
Gradually add milk, a tablespoon, knead soft dough. It took me only 2 tbsp. milk.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently 8 to 10 times. Roll out dough about 1/2 inches thick.
And cut out the scones.
Place on greased baking sheet. Brush tops with milk, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 15-20 minutes, or until browned and risen. Serve warm with butter.
